Sixty-seven cases of pancreatic head and periampuilary cancer, treated at the Surgical Department of KyungHee University Medical College, were reviewed and the results were as follows:
1) The male to female ratio was 1.3:1.
2) The most prevalent group of age was in the 5 th decade.
3) The primary origin of cancer, head of the pancreas was 61.4%, distal CBD was 28.4%, ampulla of Vater was 7.5%, and the duodeum was 2.9%.
4) The frequent clinical symptoms were indigestion(80.6%), upper abdominal pain(74.6%), jaundice(46.3%), and weight loss(41.8%).
5) Elevated serum bilirubin were noticed in 76.1%, and elevated alkaline phosphatase were noticed in 59.7%.
6) The duration of the symptoms was between 1 month to 3 months in 33%.
7) Histologically, all the cases were proven to be adenocarcinoma.
8) Radical operations(pancreaticoduodenectomy) were performed on 17 cases(average radical resection rate was 25.4%).
9) Morbidity rate was 59% in curatve resections and 22% in palliative operations.
10) Operative mortality was 17.6% in cfrative operations and 10% in palliative operations.
